From Julie Chiu: Being a guest blogger for CanCham ESB Committee is an honor. But what to blog about? I guess I’ll just go with the flow and blog about the monthly meetings and the trials & tribulations of owning/running a business. Since the next monthly ESB Committe meeting is on Sept 14th I have some time to fill!

Volunteering for TEDx Pearl River
I recently was introduced to TED.com (thanks, Jose!). What an amazing site! Its mission is to spread ideas and brings together influential thought leaders of our time. When I first went to the site I literally spent about two weeks looking at several 18 min videos.
When I heard that TEDx PearlRiver (www.TEDxPearlRiver.com) was coming to Hong Kong in October I jumped at the chance to help out/volunteer.
TEDx Pearl River is currently looking for sponsors to help support this free event. If you or anyone you know would like to be part of this wonderful opportunity please contact the event coordinator Mireya Garcia +852 9479-8019 or email email@example.com. Please spread the great word!
At TEDx events, unique talks given by live speakers combine with TEDTalks videos to spark deep conversation and connections. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis.
- 230 TEDx events took place in 2009
- 25 Languages
- 80 Countries
TED is a small nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Along with two annual conferences — the TED Conference in Long Beach and Palm Springs each spring, and the TEDGlobal conference in Oxford UK each summer — TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Project and Open TV Project, the inspiring TEDx program and the annual TED Prize.
TED.com currently has a library of over 700 amazing talks of such high quality that the site has become the platinum standard for innovation in digital storytelling.
Here’s one of my personal favorite TED talks…please go to the site to be blown away by the free information. Once you view it you’ll understand why you want to become a part of it. 🙂
